As we were talking about in class, history is defined by the PERSPECTIVE of the person looking at it. Was it a conquest over EVIL or was it a destruction of a GOOD community? It depends upon who is writing history.
In the book The Red Scarf Girl Ji-Li lives through the Communist Regime of Chairman Mao. Use the book to answer the following questions.
Assignment due Friday March 27
1. From what PERSPECTIVE is the book told?
2. How would the book be different if the narrator was Ji-Li's Communist friend Chang Hong?
3. How would the book be different if the narrator was "Six-Fingers" the man who searched the houses?
4. Why do you think the book is written from Ji-Li's PERSPECTIVE?

ReplyDelete2. if it was to be Chang Hong telling the story, it would be very different because he wouldnt know much about whats going on with Ji-Lis life, and he would probably tak about himself.
3. six fingers would probably described the black olds and how bad people were having those things, he would probably even tell all the things those people had, as when they ransacked everyones houses.
4. because she was there while everything was happening, she would know everything that ever happened at the time of Chairman Mao, even if somethings didnt happen to her, she would see it.

Well done everyone! It looks like you understand that PERSPECTIVE changes EVERYTHING in a book or historical events. I agree with Danny in that if Chang Hong told the story she would talk a lot about the good things Chairman Mao was doing and avoid the injustice. I appreciate the title Javis gave for Six Finger's book, I can imagine that his book would be more violent and less to do with feeling bad for people like Ji-Li.
